3.5% Monthly = 42% Annual — Math Samjho
Banks monthly rate advertise karte hain kyunki chhoti lagti hai. Lekin annual mein convert karo:
- 3.0% per month = 36.0% per year
- 3.35% per month = 40.2% per year
- 3.5% per month = 42.0% per year
- 3.6% per month = 43.2% per year
- 3.99% per month = 47.88% per year
Compound interest mein aur zyada hota hai — effective annual rate even higher.
Compound Interest Ka Darr — Real Numbers
Suppose karo aapne ₹50,000 credit card par outstanding chhoda aur sirf minimum payment kar rahe ho:
| Month | Outstanding | Interest (3.5%/month) | Minimum Paid | Net Balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | ₹50,000 | ₹1,750 | ₹2,500 | ₹49,250 |
| Month 6 | ₹47,800 | ₹1,673 | ₹2,390 | ₹47,083 |
| Month 12 | ₹45,100 | ₹1,579 | ₹2,255 | ₹44,424 |
| Month 24 | ₹39,500 | ₹1,383 | ₹1,975 | ₹38,908 |
| Month 36 | ₹33,200 | ₹1,162 | ₹1,660 | ₹32,702 |
Interest Calculation Ka Hidden Trick
Average Daily Balance Method
Banks "average daily balance" par interest calculate karte hain — total outstanding pe nahi. Matlab:
Agar aapne 1 July ko ₹30,000 outstanding chhoda aur 15 July ko ₹20,000 pay kiya — bank poore July ka average daily balance calculate karega:
- 1–15 July: ₹30,000 × 15 days = ₹4,50,000
- 16–31 July: ₹10,000 × 16 days = ₹1,60,000
- Total: ₹6,10,000 ÷ 31 days = ₹19,677 average
- Interest: ₹19,677 × 3.5% = ₹689
The "Interest-Free Period" Myth
Grace period sirf tab milti hai jab aapne pichle mahine ka poora balance pay kiya ho. Agar aapne ek mahine bhi minimum pay kiya — next mahine se grace period khatam. Matlab naye purchases par bhi day 1 se interest lagta hai.

Agar Revolve Ho Gaya — Kya Karo?
Option 1: Personal Loan Se Close Karo
₹50,000 credit card outstanding → ₹50,000 personal loan at 14% p.a. → credit card fully pay karo
Savings: 42% → 14% = 28% ka fark. ₹50,000 par = ₹14,000 annual savings.
Option 2: Balance Transfer (0% Offer)
Kai banks 0% balance transfer offer karte hain 3–6 months ke liye with small processing fee. Dusre card par transfer karo, is period mein fully pay karo.
Option 3: EMI Conversion
Outstanding ko bank se EMI mein convert karwa sakte ho — typically 14–18% p.a. on reducing balance. 42% se 14% — fark bada hota hai.
Option 4: IDFC First Card
Agar regular revolve hota hai — IDFC First Credit Card mein shift karo. Low spenders ke liye 9% p.a. tak interest possible hai — India mein sabse kam.
Interest Se Hamesha Kaise Bacho
- Auto-pay: full amount — minimum nahi, FULL. Bank app mein set karo
- Credit card sirf use karo jab cash available ho — card credit hai, extension of income nahi
- 30% utilisation rule — limit se zyada kharchne par debt spiral ka risk
- Grace period yaad rakho — statement date ke 20 din baad due date hoti hai
- Cash advance kabhi nahi — day 1 se interest, koi grace period nahi
